This article in Wonkhe suggests that universities are very good at knowing what is important for their students, but less aware of what is important to them. There are strong parallels with the care system, where person-centred care involves finding out and respecting what is important to the individual.
If students are to be really at the centre of education then we need to spend more time helping them find what is key to them, and working to align that with what universities know they should learn.
